About This Camp

Become just like your favourite author.

Writer’s Workshop is perfect for your junior author! If your child loves to write, to create, or to make up silly stories, this writing camp is perfect for him or her. Students will learn about different genres: realistic fiction, fantasy, and mystery. Your child will love the different short stories that will be read, and will play games — A Grade Ahead style, with a twist!

Students will also learn how to interview and compose a profile piece on a fellow student or a person who is important in their life. They will learn how to give and receive constructive feedback — something that is very important to learn to be a healthy, confident adult.

    Explore Genres & Read Short Stories

    Students are introduced to realistic fiction, fantasy, and mystery through carefully chosen short stories and read-alouds. Classroom games (A Grade Ahead style!) reinforce the key features of each genre and build reading comprehension alongside writing awareness.

    Write, Give Feedback & Revise

    Every class, students write a creative piece based on one of the genres. They also interview a classmate and compose a profile piece. Throughout the week, students learn to give and receive constructive feedback — a life skill as much as a writing skill.

    Polish & Present Your Best Work

    Writer’s Workshop will inspire students to become just like their favourite authors! At the end of the week, with the help of their peers and teacher, students will select one of their pieces, polish it up, and present it proudly for the class and their parents.
